David is a native of Santa Cruz, Bolivia. He made the United States his permanent home in 2000.
Growing up as a first-generation immigrant in a financially strapped family, David held a variety of jobs where he witnessed the mistreatment and exploitation of immigrant workers. These experiences sparked his interest for the law, politics and social justice.
David received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. While there, he obtained an internship in international politics in New York City, and joined numerous political organizations; including one that led him to discover his passion for state politics.
David parlayed these experiences into various roles at the Tennessee General Assembly, where he is now the Policy and Research Analyst for the Tennessee Senate Democratic Leader, Jeff Yarbro, and the Tennessee Senate Democratic Caucus. David served under the same capacity to the previous Senate Democratic Leader, Lee Harris, and as a legislative aide to Senator Sara Kyle. David relishes his work and being part of the legislative process. Most recently, while maintaining full time there, he obtained his J.D. from Nashville School of Law (2020) and passed the bar exam.
David is very active in the Nashville community. He has served on various boards, and currently serves as an At-Large committeeman for the Davidson County Democratic Party.
David seeks to foster better civic engagement and understanding of our political and justice system within the growing Latino community in Middle Tennessee. His comments and perspective on these topics have been featured in print, radio, and televised media.
Most importantly, David hopes to be a voice for those voiceless individuals like the immigrant workers he witnessed being mistreated and exploited.
