Sherleta Sanders

Sherleta M. Sanders was born and raised in South Nashville. After graduating from Belmont University with her bachelor’s degree, she obtained her first teaching position in an elementary school in Lavergne. She taught in Lavergne for ten years. During her tenure as a teacher, she was bestowed the honor of Teacher of the Year as well as Rutherford Education Association Representative of the Year. She continued her graduate studies obtaining her Master’s degree from Cumberland University in Instructional Design. Shortly after, she obtained her Education Specialist degree from Middle TN State University in Administration and Supervision.

After her tenure as a classroom teacher, she returned to Nashville to serve as an assistant principal. Her desire to learn as much about leadership before seeking a position as an executive principal, led her to pursue and obtain a doctorate degree from Lipscomb University in Educational Leadership and Strategic Change. She maintained her position as an assistant principal until her deep roots and love for the Edgehill community called her back home to the Edgehill Community. This is where she obtained the role as an executive principal. She has a passion for ensuring that the students she serves receive equitable opportunities and resources. This passion has inspired her to learn as much as she can about elevating her voice for the voices of the underserved, so they do not become voiceless. She firmly believes that the Board and Commissions Leadership Institute will provide her with the tools needed to fulfill this newfound purpose.
