SUN has been in official negotiations with Texas-based developer CREA since February 23, 2022, when both groups signed a Memorandum of Understanding to “negotiate in good faith with the goal of executing a mutually beneficial CBA covering the following areas: (1) Transparency & Enforcement; (2) Affordable Housing; (3) Construction Practices; (4) Neighborhood Impact.”
It is fair to say that both sides have had to suffer through hard conversations in an effort to find common ground. Last week we had very productive negotiations that brought us to an agreement in principle, only to be disappointed by the draft they sent to us not matching our understanding of the conversations.
The documents below are what we sent back to them based on our understanding of the conversations. CREA has yet to respond, and pulled back from negotiations this past Monday.
Our hope is that CREA will return to the table to finish what we started. This is an opportunity to set a precedent for how development can happen going forward. Our city desperately needs a new way to connect housing + economic opportunities for those in danger of being displaced or we are going to lose the people who are the beating heart of Nashville.
We are sharing these CBAs so the People of Nashville understand what we are fighting for:
- Long-Term Affordability
- Robust Resident Rights
- Environmental and Neighborhood Protections
- Safe Working Conditions & Career Opportunities for Impacted Community Members
- Clearly Defined Enforcement
