Part 4: You have the green light

The transit plan is making a huge investment in our city. But don’t relax yet. There’s still more action, advocacy, and people power needed to bring the necessary transformation that we know is attainable.

Speaking of action, we need you to sign and share the budget petition

The petition is a call to shift the city’s budget priorities to align with what our community relationships and research have found that community members want and need. After all, living a good life should not be limited to certain zip codes, incomes, and job types. Regardless of socioeconomic status, most of us want to live and thrive in communities with good jobs, quality education, safe neighborhoods, reliable healthcare, and more.

We believe the following priorities are essential to moving Nashville in the right direction:

  1. Invest in Zero Fare program so everyone can ride public transit for free.

  2. Establish the “I Want You to Stay” Fund for the purposes of right to counsel, rental and foreclosure prevention assistance, and land banking to prevent displacement of vulnerable renters and homeowners.

  3. Create a dashboard to track Metro Nashville’s investments in key quality-of-life areas such as housing, good jobs, small business, childcare, and healthy food access to ensure transparency and accountability in the city’s investments.

  4. Launch the Road to Opportunity Fund to support Black, Brown, and Immigrant contractors who directly employ their workers to stop exploitative misclassification, participate in a certified apprenticeship program, provide health insurance, and mandate safety training.

  5. Issue bonds to create a Housing Production Fund for permanently affordable, publicly owned, and community controlled housing. Reinvest equity into maintenance and more affordable units.

Lastly, Stand Up Nashville and the SHIFT Nashville coalition invite you to register to attend the Summit on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 6 pm, at the TIRRC Headquarters, 33710 Ezell Road, Nashville, TN 37211. This community convening will bring together everyday people with Metro decision makers. We must listen, learn, and hold each other accountable in order to truly build a Nashville for Nashvillians.
