BOARDS & COMMISSIONS LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The Board & Commissions Leadership Institute (BCLI) is a 3-month program designed to empower Nashville’s working-class residents, Black people, and communities of color, to learn the ins and outs of how our city operates and prepare them to serve on Metro Nashville’s 70+ boards and commissions. Through BCLI, the people who power Music City are positioned to become the decision makers who influence and ensure public resources are used for public good.

YOUR CITY, YOUR VOICE

Stand Up Nashville’s Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute is preparing everyday Nashvillians to advance people-centered policy in local government.

BCLI will host two 2026 cohorts:

  • Cohort I: March – June
  • Cohort II: August – November

When I was incarcerated in federal prison with a life sentence, my biggest fear was dying in prison and only being known as a drug dealer. To now get an opportunity to serve my community positively and have my name mentioned in a positive light is a dream come true and what I envisioned while in prison.”

– Larry Turnley (LT), Board Member of Procurement Standards and BCLI Graduate
