We organize our diverse base to build a stronger community that values the lives of Nashville’s people of color and working families. Role Summary

Stand Up Nashville is seeking a passionate and skillful organizer to build power to win racial, economic, and climate justice in Nashville and beyond. The organizer will develop deep relationships with residents and community leaders in targeted neighborhoods to fight for good jobs, affordable housing, and budget priorities that meet community needs. The organizer will coordinate organizing, canvassing, leadership development, and campaign efforts. If you want to change the way decisions are made and development happens in our city, then this position is for you.

Principle duties

  • Participate in strategy development and planning to grow the organizing program and advance campaigns.
  • Build meaningful partnerships with community and policy allies to support campaigns, our members, and core organizing work.
  • Develop our basic organizing and advocacy skills, generate bold actions, move policy makers, and educate the public.
  • Work with SUN staff and affiliated organizations to organize actions, press events, and campaigns. 
  • Coordination and recruitment of volunteers and interns; 
  • Enter necessary data to track attendance, outcomes and other deliverables.
  • Track and engage in targeted legislative action within the confines of the organization’s 501(c)(3) designation. 
  • Develop the leadership of people to share their stories publicly.
  • Support SUN in implementing social media, peer to peer texting, and field outreach strategies.
  • Carry out day-to-day tasks as directed. 
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.

Educational or Experiential Requirements 

  •  Must demonstrate commitment to racial, gender, and economic justice.
  •  Minimum of two years of demonstrable experience in large scale organizing, legislative action, research.
  • Strong listening, persuasion and facilitation skills. Experience with popular education curriculum development and coaching preferred.
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse groups of people as well as an understanding of the daily challenges faced by low-income communities of color.
  • Ability to work independently, navigate obstacles, discern priorities, meet competing deadlines and handle multiple projects. 
  • Strong database management skills that inform analysis of the base and strategy.
  • Ability to work varied hours including nights, weekends and holidays.  
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred, although not necessary.
  • Proficient in building databases, P2P text messaging, Action Network, and social media platforms. 
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel to any part of Tennessee when necessary, including work or travel on weekends and evenings when necessary.
  • Successful individuals will value our communities and model unity and equity in Nashville and beyond.  

Work Environment

This position requires:

  • Ability to travel when needed. 
  • Ability to drive or travel long distances by car or other means of transportation, such as airline travel.
  • Attention to detail and repetitive use of computer equipment, databases, office equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds when setting up community venues for organizing meetings.
  • Ability to communicate with community members, individually and in large groups.

Compensation

 Hourly Pay Rate: $24.04 per hour
